Pontiac Alternator
An alternator is a performance auto device that is found on most Pontiac vehicles.
It works to convert the mechanical energy into electrical power to recharge the
battery. This is one of the indispensable performance parts with which the engine
cannot work efficiently without. Some of the electrical devices such as the headlight,
and tail lights get the power from the Pontiac alternator.
Pontiac alternator is driven by either a timing belt or a chain gear that is
connected through the engine shaft. As the engine starts to run, the alternator
begins to produce electricity that flows through the system for the consumption
of the different devices that is found in the Pontiac vehicle.
Basically, the Pontiac alternator is composed of four parts which completes the
system. The four parts include the stator, rotor, rectifier, and voltage regulator.
The rotor is rotating hundred of times per minute inside the stator wherein the
current is being generated. The power that is generated by these two parts is
in the form of alternating current (AC). The Pontiac vehicle is using a direct
current (DC), thus a rectifier is needed. The bridge type rectifier is composed
of four diodes that only allow one direction of current to flow in, converting
then the AC into DC to make it useful for different Pontiac electrical systems.
The voltage regulator as it name implies is used to regulate or allow current
to flow only if the power is needed.
Pontiac alternator is one vital engine part that provides greater efficiency
in power up the electronic devices of the Pontiac vehicle as well as to recharge
the battery. Recharging the battery is important for the vehicle to be able to
start especially in cold mornings.
