Pontiac Brake Rotor
Brake rotor or often called as the brake disc is the circular plate that is installed
typically on the front wheel of the vehicle. It is made from highly durable alloy-like
steel material with two friction surfaces where the brake pads are pressed against
to obtain optimum braking performance. Pontiac brake rotor is one of components
of a disc brake system that is often replaced, because it also suffers massive
heat that is generated through the braking process.
Brake rotor wear is usually lesser than the pad, due to its cast iron steel material
that is relatively hard, can resist wear, and absorbs or dissipates heat well.
Rotors also have different designs that offer several cooling and dissipation
efficiency. These designs may include hole drilling, straight ribs, curved ribs,
and segmented ribs. The different rib and holes configuration are used to optimize
the cooling on each specific Pontiac vehicle application.
The amount of heat that is created when the braking process occurs is depending
on the weight and speed of your Pontiac. If the temperature on the rotor keeps
on increasing, the brake rotor may start to fade. This fading may decrease the
width of the rotor; and once it gets into the minimum thickness, the ability to
stop the vehicle in shorter distance is reduced dramatically.
Even if the brake rotor is made from hard material, it needs to be monitored
frequently. This maintenance procedure will ensure that your rotor is in perfect
condition to provide the optimum braking performance that your Pontiac vehicle
needs. In the same way, the owner knows when it is needed to be replaced, so to
prevent any accident related to faulty Pontiac brake rotor.
