Pontiac Sway Bar
A sway bar also known as a stabilizer bar is made from steel spring with its
one end mounted on the frame and the other end to the lower control arms. When
cornering without a sway bar, the weight of your Pontiac vehicle will surely shift
towards the outside of the chassis, making is susceptible to rolling on sides.
The Pontiac sway bar is used to reduce lean effect during cornering especially
on high speeds.
Pontiac sway bar couples the suspension on each side into the chassis of your
Pontiac vehicle. When the left side suspension compresses, the sway bar acts as
a mirror by which it also compresses the right side of the suspension to make
the Pontiac run stable. A good Pontiac sway bar can actually provide a 100% combination
between each side of the suspension. If one side of the spring is attempted to
be compressed, using a sway bar actually makes the compression available for both
springs.
The sway bar starts to get on the scene whenever you go around the corner and
the chassis starts to lean. When the body of the Pontiac begins to bend on either
side, it compresses the outside suspension and the sway bar also squeezes the
other side to ensure that the chassis remain even and stable.
The Pontiac is a part of your steering and suspension system that needs to be
checked regularly. Worn or damaged sway bar can cause your Pontiac vehicle to
lean excessively on turns and corners. You can also hear metal rattling around
your suspension when going over humps and bumps with such suspension system.
